It's Sketch Time!

It's Thursday and time for a sketch from Tamara! The Design Team came up with some really neat cards for this week and you can see them HERE. I turned the sketch from landscape to portrait and made this for today:

This stamp is being released on November 1st by Our Daily Bread Designs. I stamped the verses in Night of Navy ink on Whisper White cardstock. There is an embossed edge down the right side, which was made with a Cuttlebug embossing folder. The flowers, pearls, crystals and pin are all from Stampin' Up!'s Pretties kit. My cardstock is Baja Breeze and Bashful Blue, both from Stampin' Up! Thanks for stopping by today!

EEK and a Sneak PEEK!

You know your day is maybe not going to be the best when you turn on your computer first thing in the morning and it makes a BAD sound....and then once it turns on, shuts itself off. Then when you try to restart it, and it keeps recycling the opening start up page and won't actually ever turn on........EEK! Why is it that I don't remember to back up my files?? I am hoping that the computer hospital will say it's an easy thing to fix....all my family pictures are on there, including my trip to Ireland - and all my cards I have ever made. Well, we will see. I am on my school laptop updating here, so hopefully by the end of the week things will be back to normal.

I had already uploaded this card to my email, so I can access the picture to share with you. I made this from a new release by Our Daily Bread Designs called Joy to the World. I love the font of the sentiments -- and there are several! Three new sets will be released on November 1st!
I am hoping to get an Ott light this week; my pictures have been so shadowy lately, even if I use my daughter's new camera. So it must just be the low light in my dungeon stamp room! Hopefully you can see this well enough to see the embossed border at the bottom of the card. I made that with one of the newer Cuttlebug embossing folders that is just a strip.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Tomorrow will be an exciting day in this house -- the musical at the high school opens tomorrow. I have been helping direct and will play keyboard in the pit orchestra, my daughter is in it and my husband plays trumpet in the orchestra. The kids are doing a great job. The musical is "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and we have five performances beginning tomorrow night, two on Saturday, one Sunday and one Monday. Should be lots of fun!

It's Mudpie on House Mouse Monday!

Mudpie is wondering..... what was I thinking when I said I would start a new diet with some friends today? He thinks I won't make it past day one, but I am hoping he is wrong! He knows, however, that Diet Coke is on the no-no list, and that might be an issue.......He even knows that giving up chocolate is easier for me than Diet Coke!!
Well, we will see!
Mudpie is stamped in VersaFine Black Onyx and colored with Stampin' Up! Creamy Caramel and Blush Blossom markers. The designr paper is by The Paper Studio, with cardstock coming from the Tawny Pack from Prisma. A little grosgrain ribbon, some brads, and an "S" clip, and we are good to go!

The Leaves are Falling!

Well, the snow is all gone (hurray!), but there are leaves everywhere after the 50 mph wind we had all day! I even have a few on my card! :)

Today's SCS Limited Supplies Challenge, hosted by my friend, Wendy, was to use leaves as a focal point and some pink on your card. It's Pink Week at SCS and each challenge has incorporated some kind of pink. My pink is in the background of the leaves; specifically at the top of the top leaf!

Tomorrow is the last Marching Band Competition of the season - the BIG state one - where all the bands from around the state come and compete. I am so thankful that it's not raining, snowing, or blowing and that the temperature tomorrow is going to be in the high 60's!
Have a great weekend!

One Last Buzzard Appearance for the Season

I love this little buzzard and I hope you aren't tired of seeing him! This is his last appearance for awhile as it snowed here today and he is now cold and wants to go back in his drawer! This is a birthday card I made for a friend - Buzzard is wishing for something more than bare bones! Maybe he is wishing for FREE shipping? Well, I am offering it to the first person who orders with Monica today at Hambo Stamps and gives her the code of BUZZJUDY! Any size order!
Since I made my cactus last week with the Fingerprint stamp, I thought I would show you the cute Cactus that Hambo Stamps has too. A different kind of course~ I grew up in Arizona and I miss seeing the Sahuaro cactus!

I used the sketch that Tamara gave her Design Team for today. Mine looks a bit different, as I flipped it and added some layers. My scalloped edge (on the sketch) is actually a small zig zag edge at the bottom - a little hard to see in the main photo. The sky background is filled with desert clouds sponged with Bordering Blue - also too light for the camera to pick up - for some reason this week was not a great card picture taking week for me!

Stamps: Buzzard, Tracks, Cactus, Bone, Make a Wish by Hambo Stamps
Paper: Basic Black, Very Vanilla, Mellow Moss, Old Olive, Stampin' Up! DP
Ink: Basic Black, Bordering Blue, Creamy Caramel, Certainly Celery, Old Olive, Real Red, Apricot Appeal, Copic C-1 and C-3
Accessories: Silver HPH, black twine, photo corner punch

Thanks for putting up with my cute Buzzard for one more day!

Better Lighting! Truer Colors!

Sometimes I get so frustrated at how long it takes for the picture to change on SCS after you have edited it! I see my edited copy, but I have waited for four hours for the picture to change. The first one had such terrible lighting that the colors looked off to me (by a LOT!). Oh well! People are very kind anyway! :)

I made this card for today's Color Challenge: Pink Pirouette, Kiwi Kiss and Chocolate Chip. I barely had enough CChip paper left; it's a good thing I have a whole package coming later this week! I love these colors together - what a great combination! All this week the SCS Challenges will have PINK in them for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Thanks for coming by today! I will have some more new stuff later this afternoon as well!

Stamps: Pocket Silhouettes, Sanded
Paper: Pink Pirouette, Chocolate Chip, Kiwi Kiss
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Kiwi Kiss
Accessories: satin ribbon, word window punch, small oval punch, brads, paper piercer, Fiskars scallop scissors, Flower Fusion Too
Techniques: faux stitching, piercing

It's House Mouse Monday and It's "Anything But a Card"!

Today over at House Mouse & Friends you will find "Anything But a Card!" It's House Mouse Monday and I made a little treat holder for my project. This little "box" is so simple and easy to make - and fun to give! You can find the awesome tutorial HERE. My Scor-Pal made this so fast! I left out the "hole" at the top and put my image there, as I wasn't planning to make this to hang on a bottle.

I stamped Trick or Cheese with Black Stazon ink and colored with my Stampin' Up! markers. The cute candy corn designer paper is by Heidi Grace Designs (got it at A.C. Moore with my friend, Deb!).
Be sure to check out what the rest of the Design Team did and play along! Your card link will be featured later this week on the House Mouse & Friends blog!

Thanks for stopping by today! Happy Monday!

Blessings

I made this little card to celebrate the birth of new baby! A couple in our church had their first baby - a boy - a week ago today. I love the little sassy attitude of the gosling trying out his wings! All stamps are by Hambo Stamps.

The border punch is Martha Stewart - my WalMart had this one. It is really hard to punch, however, when you have good quality cardstock like Stampin' Up!'s. Most punches I can work successfully sitting down - this one I have to stand and really push hard. But it does make a lovely border! I sponged the edges with Bashful Blue to help them show up against the back of the card better. The card is approximately 4.25 inches square.

The geese are stamped with Basic Gray ink and are colored light gray with Copic C-1 and C-3. Their feet are done with my Barely Banana Stampin' Up! marker.

I used this sketch for my layout and flipped it on its side:

Thanks for stopping by today! I am feeling much better and am off to the Farmer's Market to buy pumpkins and gourds!

Stamps: Hambo Stamps: Blessings & Mother Goose
Paper: Bashful Blue, Barely Banana, Whisper White, POP DP
Ink: Basic Gray, Bashful Blue, Barely Banana, Copic C-1 and C-3
Accessories: large oval punch, grosgrain ribbon, Martha Stewart border punch, circle cutter, blue eyelet

Some Fun Stuff!

Last week all of the Hambo Design Team posted their ideas and projects using two stamps - Fingerprint (#0709) and Little Thumb Thing (#1510). I so enjoyed seeing everyone else's creations and there are so very many possibilities and ideas for that little thumb print.

Here is another idea!
My little prickly pear cactus is stamped with Sage Shadow ink and the cactus needles are drawn with Old Olive. The ground is just drawn in with Creamy Caramel and the clouds are made with my precious and well-guarded (I thought I had lost it once this past summer) hand-cut cloud stencil using Bordering Blue. The sentiment is stamped with Chocolate Chip ink, and all edges are sponged with the same ink. I used Naturals Ivory paper for my images, and the designer paper is from The Paper Studio. I pierced the corners using my Paper Piercer from Making Memories. Oh - I can't forget the Buzzard (#0341)! He is stamped in black and colored with Creamy Caramel, More Mustard and Copic C-1. Be watching for my next thumbprint card later this weekend!

Before this weekend is over, however, you must head over to Hambo Stamps and check out the BOGO Sale!! There are some awesome values and stamps you will want to add to your collection!
Another place to visit today is my friend, Becca Feeken's blog, Amazing Paper Grace. If you have never been there, you are in for a real treat. Becca has a real gift for making incredibly beautiful designs and projects. She has a gift for you! She is offering any stamp set, including this one, We Three Kings, by Our Daily Bread Designs as blog candy! Be sure to enter by noon on Saturday!

Stamps: We Three Kings by Our Daily Bread Designs
Paper: Sage Shadow, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White, Designer Paper by American Crafts
Ink: Basic Black, various for coloring
Accessories: small oval punches, Filgree brads, gems, Silver HPH, organdy ribbon

And now for a yummy recipe:

Cheesy Tortilla Soup

1 envelope fajita marinade mix
4 boneless chicken breast halves, chopped
2 T. vegetable or canola oil
1/4 C. butter (use the real thing!)
1/3 C . flour
2-14.5 oz. cans of chicken broth
1/3 C. Rotel tomatoes (or canned tomatoes with chiles)
1 C. cubed Velveeta
8 oz. Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
1.5 C. half and half

Toppings:
guacamole, tortilla chips, shredded cheese, sliced avocado, sour cream

Prepare fajita mix according to directions. Add chicken and marinate. In lg. skillet, cook chicken in oil until juices run clear. Set aside.

In large saucepan, melt butter and stir in flour until blended. Gradually add in broth. Bring to a boil. Cook and stir for 2 minutes until bubbly hot. Add tomatoes, Velveeta, and 1 C. of M. Jack cheese. Cook and stir until cheese is melted. Stir in cream and chicken; heat through but do not boil. Spoon into bowls. Add toppings! Serves 8.

Have a great day! I am saving the craft for tomorrow this is long enough already!)~

An Easy Sketch For You and a SALE!

Today's sketch over at Sketches! by Tamara is an easy one -- it has so many possibilities. I kept to the flower theme (but of course, you could use anything), and chose the coneflower from Summer Botanicals by Flourishes. I used my Stampin' Up! markers to color in my image. Since this stamp had never been inked, I had to sand it a little with my sanding block to get the ink to adhere to the polymer. It works great! I used Pumpkin Pie, Elegant Eggplant, and Old Olive for the flowers, and sponged the edges with Autumn Terracota by Close to My Heart (CTMH). The sentiment is stamped in Elegant Eggplant, and the edges are sponged with Old Olive.
Here is the sketch:
Join in and play along, and be sure to link back to the Sketches! blog, and you may be featured as a Guest Designer!

Did I mention that in last week's marching Band competition, our high school band took home a Superior rating? So they are doing awesome this year -- one more competition to go (the BIG one) next weekend! I was a bus sponsor this time, and when we left our town, it was cold, pouring rain, and windy. I took a scarf, blanket, gloves, hat, umbrella, and a raincoat to go over my regular coat -- plus, I was wearing a sweatshirt and a t-shirt! Our band was scheduled to perform at 9:30 p.m. with the Awards at 11:00 p.m. and I knew I didn't want to be cold and wet that whole time. We traveled the two hours to Lincoln for the competition, and as soon as I stepped off the bus, I was hit with warm 70 degree air! So weird. That's Nebraska weather for you! So back into the bus I go, with all that stuff -- I dumped it in my seat, and left for the field with just my lightweight jacket! Most people were in short sleeves when we left to go back home after midnight. We arrive back here at 2:40 a.m. with cold, pouring rain and wind!

I am feeling somewhat better today; thank you for all the kind words! Today my sister, mom, and I are going to try to stamp most of the day. Yesterday the two of them worked on Halloween and Thanksgiving cards. I don't know what we have planned yet for today, but I will show you some of what I make tomorrow!

BIG post tomorrow! Cards (more than one even - for me, that's amazing! haha), a new fall recipe and another craft for kids!! Blog Candy too! Don't miss it!

And for a super-fantastic SALE, check out the "Buy One - Get One" SALE event at Hambo Stamps!! There are some fabulous deals while supplies last, so HURRY!

Stamps: Summer Botanicals by Flourishes
Paper: Naturals Ivory & Old Olive (Stampin' Up!); Autumn Terracotta, New England Ivy, Pansy Purple (CTMH)
Ink: Elegant Eggplant, Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive
Accessories: large and small oval punches, ticket corner punch, brads (The Paper Studio), fibers (CTMH)

More Metallic Paper!

I can't seem to stay away from this metallic paper for long! I simply love all the colors that are available HERE. I made this card for today's SCS Color Challenge. It was a tough one (not the colors), because I have been sick since yesterday morning with bronchitis, which invariably turns to pneumonia for me a lot of the time. I felt a little weird on Friday before I became un-wise -lol- and it has gotten progressively worse, unfortunately. So -- it is hard for me to stamp and think up good ideas and designs when my brain is fuddled!

But - here it is as is! The colors for today's challenge are
Pink Pirouette
Basic Black
Whisper White

I stamped my main images (Footprints in the Sand by Our Daily Bread Designs) in Palette Noir Black, and then stamped the cross (Cross of Christ) behind the sentiment in Pink Pirouette. This card is 5.5 in. square.

Thanks so much for stopping by today. I have several posts to catch up on - my House Mouse card, and I have such a cute thumbprint card to show you - it's almost done! My sister is visiting this week from Arizona. What horrible timing for illness. But that's life, huh!? Please visit again!

Stamps: Footprints in the Sand & Cross of Christ by Our Daily Brad Desings
Paper: Bazzill Metallic Black, Metallic Silver, Pink Pirouette, Basic Black, Whisper White, American Crafts Scratchy Dots DP
Ink: Palette Noir Black, Pink Pirouette
Accessories: black and pink organdy ribbon, square brads, corner rounder

Watercolor is My Favorite

Today's Inspiration Challenge was right up my alley, as I love watercolor artwork. Stef chose this website of Mizue Hirano for us to browse. I chose this picture:

I first spritzed my watercolor paper and then squirted little drops of Barely Banana and Pretty in Pink reinkers. Then I stamped my images (Treasure Life by CTMH), distressed the edges with the Stampin' Up Cutter Tool, and wrapped Linen Thread around the main panels. The sentiment is stamped in Always Artichoke.

Yesterday I didn't get a chance to stamp as I had a dentist visit - and am now not as wise as I was yesterday, due to losing some wisdom teeth! It went well, but I am still tired! Today is another Marching Band Competition and I am a bus sponsor this time. We leave at 5:00 p.m. to travel to the site and get home at 3:00 a.m. tomorrow. Doesn't look like any stamping time in the forecast either! Just rain and cold tonight! I am taking a blanket!

Have a great weekend! I have one more Hambo Stamps thumbprint card to show you tomorrow!

Stamps: CTMH: Treasure Life
Paper: watercolor paper, Old Olive, Summer Sun, Rose Red
Ink: Barely Banana, Pretty in Pink, Old Olive, Always Artichoke, Rose Red
Accessories: linen thread, paper piercer, distressing tool

Better Late Than Never!

Yesterday was a crazy day at work, so I didn't get home early enough to post my recipes and kids' craft! So today is a longer post!

First I want to share my card that I made for the sketch at Sketches! by Tamara. I finagled it a little bit to fit my spooky card. I am not normally one to make Halloween cards, but this week I have made three! Weird. Anyway, here is the sketch:

You are welcome to join in and play along. See the other cards HERE. A lot of the Design Team went with a Christmas theme, as the sketch pictures show a poinsettia type flower or snowflake, but I decided to do something different and stick with October and make a Halloween card:

My cut out mummy (Stampabilities) is the flower on the right side of the sketch, and the vertical lines of the designer paper (The Paper Studio) are representing the vertical cross piece. My little spiders are plastic confetti that I have had forever --- one day they (hundreds and hundreds) fell on the floor...... weeks later I am in my stamp room and see a spider on the floor (I hate spiders! Why, you ask, do all of my Halloween cards have them then? LOL). I am thinking it's a little black REAL spider! But now I have learned to recognize the confetti shape! The corner web is a little Stampin' Up! incentive stamp and the sentiment is Studio G (a gift from my friend, Shelly!). The black webbing trim is from Really Reasonable Ribbon's September Club offering.
Now on to some fall food! Many of you probably have this Werther's recipe already, but it is such fun to make and give as little gifts all fall. I don't like nuts, so I like to eat this recipe too! (I do add nuts on some gifts). Sometimes I just make up the caramel mixture, put it in little containers and give with a variety of fall apples. We have so many different ones around here (more than 20!), and some people would rather cut their apples and dip, than eat them on a stick! Either way, it's yummy! I double or triple the recipe, depending on how many I want to make at a time.
CARAMEL APPLES
Ingredients
4 medium apples (I use Granny Smith most of the time)
4 apple sticks
11 oz. bag of caramels, unwrapped (I like Werther's)
2 T. evaporated milk

Push sticks into the top of the apples. Put caramels and milk in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high, about 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently. Dip apples in mixture, or spoon mixture over apples (on wax paper). Let caramel set before wrapping or serving. You can also put these in the fridge on styrofoam trays for faster set-up. Dip almost set caramel in crushed nuts, candies, and chocolate!
And now for the kids - this kind of goes along with my card! We have done this activity at school aside from Halloween, when the kids are working on the Bones unit!
SKELETON PASTA
Supplies
A few different types of pasta and dried beans, like spaghetti, macaroni, tiny tube pasta, long tube pasta, wagon wheels, long spirals, tiny shells, wagon wheels, lima beans
A piece of black construction paper
White glue
Glue the pasta to the black paper using white glue. Have the kids arrange the pasta on the paper before gluing (to make sure that they have room for the whole body on the piece of paper).
You can use just about any type of pasta (or dried beans) for the bones. A wagon wheel is nice for the head. Spaghetti makes good fingers and toes. Tiny tubes or dried lentils are good as vertebrae in the spine. Long tubes make collar bones. Longer tubes or long spirals make good arm and leg bones. Small shells or dried white beans are nice for the kneecaps, wrists and ankles. Two dried lima beans make good hips.
Before and After Patterns:

Have a super day! Thanks for stopping by!

May You Have....

Today's Color Challenge at SCS really challenged me. It's so interesting how some colors are easy for people to put together and some aren't! That's why it's a challenge, huh? ;)

I used the Stamp of the Month for September from CTMH, and cased a layout from the CTMH catalog for today's card. It didn't turn out quite like I had hoped, and I had to "fix" some things, but it's done!

The organdy ribbon is rainbow colored, and I chose a piece that had complimentary colors in it. The tangerine flowers are cut out and held like a little nosegay by the twill.

Thanks for stopping by today! I appreciate every one of my readers!

Tomorrow I will have some fun fall recipes and a craft for kids!
Have a great day!
P.S. KELLEY: "May you have.......a wonderful birthday today!!!"

EEK!

For our House Mouse & Friends Challenge this week, we were to make a Halloween card. I love this little mousie dressed up like a fierce bat. He has the cutest little fangs - I think they are hard to see in this picture, but they are so "fierce"! I got this great background paper on my trip to North Carolina when I went shopping with my friend, Deb {beadn&stampn}. It's a Heidi Grace design. Some of the bats have glitter on their wings, so I added a bit to my mouse's bat wings. I put a piece of it on the inside (which you can see a little bit of) to carry the design to the inside, which says "Have a very MICE Halloween!" The brads in the corners are by The Paper Studio.

A few weeks ago, Monica (Hambo Stamps) sent her Design Team two fun stamps and a challenge to come up with a project showcasing those stamps. The neat thing about it is that the thumbprint is actually from Monica's thumb! She will have fun stuff with these stamps all week long, so be sure to head on over to "Talk to the Ham" and get a glimpse of what she made too! None of us have discussed what anyone has made, so we will have to see if we had the same ideas! Libby and MacKenzie are having "Hambo Week" all week long, with lots of cool stuff, so check that out! My Hambo Week will be next month!

Be sure to check out the other Design Team blogs and see what they came up with as well:

And here is mine:

I used my Heidi Grace paper again, and carried the spider idea over into the thumbprint stamp. His eyes are tiny white brads (CTMH) on which I drew little black pupils with a Sharpie marker. This was a fun challenge, and I will have a few more projects with these two stamps later this week!

Have a GREAT Monday!

Memories to Keep

Here are a few pictures I took in North Carolina. This first one was out the front window of the car on Sunday morning as we were on our way to church. I loved the foggy mist! This was about 8:00 a.m., and by noon, it was all sunshine again!

And here is my son's cute kitty, "Crayon." She was a doll - although very shy. He has only had her a week! Here is a picture of my son, Steven, and me, after his jazz band concert. He had three solos, one of which was most of the song. It was a real joy to hear him play. He is a junior in college, and we have not heard him play in a group since he graduated from high school! I was so happy to be able to go and hear him, and also meet his friends and church family. It was also really fun to travel to Ft. Bragg and meet Deb! It was a great trip!

As for the Marching Band Competition, my daughter's band won First Place in the Parade Marching and took home the Sweepstakes trophy for best performance of the day!! It was awesome! They played and looked great! Here is a picture of her band waiting to come on the field for their show, and one of her playing her "baby" bass drum. They have 177 members.

Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to come back tomorrow for the Hambo DT Challenge and my weekly House Mouse & Friends project!

Shimmer and Shine

I love shimmery paper. On this card I used three different types. The metallic silver is from The Metallic Stack, available at Our Daily Bread Designs. The patterned background is from a stack by K & Co. that I purchased at my local stamp store, and the card base is a single sheet I bought at Hobby Lobby.

I stamped my sentiment in Black Stazon on a piece of Polished Stone that I had made using Brilliant Blue, Green Galore and Bordering Blue. It is from Footprints in the Sand by Our Daily Bread Designs, as is the fish, stamped in Pacific Point, which is from Flourished Christian Symbols. Both are from new releases. Check them out HERE.
I wrapped the Polished Stone piece with silver thread (it looks like liquid silver), and then added pearls from Stampin' Up!'s Pretties kit. All panels are raised on dimensionals.
Thanks for stopping by today!

I stamped my main image with Black Stazon on Georgia Pacific White and then used various Stampin' Up! markers to color in my image. The sentiment is stamped in Purely Pomegranate. All papers (except GPW) are from Close To My Heart.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for another design with a newly released set!
