Hoping Spring is Here!

I am certainly hoping that spring is here!
I am not a person that likes cold, but I surely like cute little snowmen. So here is probably my last one for this season.

When I was 8 years old, it snowed 86 inches (yes EIGHTY-SIX) in my hometown over the course of a week. This was two weeks before Christmas. We were out for a MONTH!

As a kid, it was the coolest thing ever to have two weeks of snow days and then Christmas vacation. We made snow tunnels in our front yard that were 5 feet tall - you could stand up in them. The snow was heavy, so the tunnels didn't fall. We climbed on our roofs and jumped into our yards. We made snowmen until we were tired of snowmen and made forts and had awesome snowball fights.

As a parent, it was not so cool. (I know this only from what our parents said, and having been through a few lesser (much ha!) storms). Neighbors had to help each other shovel their roofs for fear of collapse (and it happened to some). Our living room ceiling cracked. Cars had to be found before they could be shoveled out - and then where could you go? Roads were not plowed for days. Some families ran out of food. But neighbors came to the rescue. Thank goodness we always had power!

It was a great experience that is fun to talk about with friends that were also there. The ULTIMATE OF SNOW DAYS. And they were happy days :)
A great childhood memory!

  1. Love all your layering and the color combination. Although your story of snow days sounds fun - I'm looking forward to almost 70 degrees today in NJ!
